The story behind the cartoon
OpenAI doubled usage limits for its $100, $200 and $500 ChatGPT Pro tiers and for Business Premium, effective October 29 — reversing a planned cut to existing Pro 200 subscribers that had been due to take effect after October 29.
The abandoned cut would have shrunk Pro 200's included Work and Codex allowance while keeping the $200 monthly price; instead the higher limits mainly expand the shared Work and Codex allowance at unchanged prices, with no action required from subscribers and Plus limits untouched.
One caveat from the reporting: OpenAI does not publish exact numerical limits for each tier, so the doubling cannot be checked against a published figure, and the separate extended limits for always-on Dots assistants continue only 'for now,' with no stated end date.
The joke is the complaint department as a magic trick: the customer arrives furious about getting less, and the clerk apologizes by wheeling out a bucket twice as big — while the cut itself sits underneath the counter, small, labelled, and pretending it was never there.
