The story behind the cartoon
ServiceNow and OpenAI expanded their partnership on October 28 with a new ServiceNow plugin for ChatGPT, available in OpenAI's marketplace. An IT worker can find similar incidents, assess the risk of a change, and update a ServiceNow record without leaving ChatGPT.
ServiceNow's Action Fabric applies the customer's existing business rules and permissions, and remains the system where actions are executed and governed. The plugin does not replace that governance layer; it works inside it, so the IT desk's rulebook still decides what is allowed.
The pitch is speed without a new window: the incident history, the change-risk check, and the record update all happen in the chat, while the system of record stays ServiceNow. For IT teams, the appeal is fewer hops between tools during an incident, not a new boss for the desk.
The joke is the new hire who never leaves his post: a beaming robot has already taken the IT desk, tickets and checklists in both hands, with the customer's giant rulebook parked beside him like a supervisor that never blinks. He does everything except question the rules.
