The story behind the cartoon
GitHub made Copilot Fusion generally available on October 28. It is not a new model but a runtime orchestration mode inside Copilot: the developer picks an effort level, Standard, High or Max, and Fusion decides which model handles each coding task.
Fusion can use a single model, a cascade that escalates a cheap draft to a stronger model, or a critique in which one model reviews another's work. Independent tester Artificial Analysis scored Fusion Max 60 against Claude Code with Opus 5.5 Max at 62.
The price comparison is the headline: $5.59 per task for Fusion Max against $11.42 for the Claude Code setup, roughly half the cost for near-frontier coding performance. The saving comes from routing, not from a cheaper flagship model.
The joke is the division of labor: the little robot does all the typing, the middle robot passes the task along, and the enormous tuxedoed genius is hired for exactly one semicolon. Half price, it turns out, means the expensive guy barely works.
