The story behind the cartoon
OpenAI released GPT-Rosalind-6 on October 30, a frontier reasoning model for biology, drug discovery and translational medicine, available only to approved scientists, research institutes, companies and government partners through its trusted-access program — not in the ordinary ChatGPT chat tab.
The twist is in the deployment, not the weights: Rosalind-6 runs on the same weights as GPT-6 Astra with no additional training, but with fewer refusals on dual-use biological queries.
It still refuses requests for biological weaponization.
One padlock swings open for science, the other stays shut for weapons — the robot guards both with the same grin, which is either reassurance or the problem.
