DEEP FILE
China's humanoids spent fall 2026 going from spectacle to scrutiny: the PLA studied combat deployments right after the World Humanoid Robot Games, then Beijing froze the IPO rush after Unitree's 55% post-debut slump exposed shaky state-backed revenue. Meanwhile FieldAI set out to raise $700M at a $10B valuation for one foundation model to run every robot body.

Days after the World Humanoid Robot Games — where bots boxed, danced and outran Usain Bolt over 100 meters — the PLA Daily called for moving lab tech to military training grounds for robotic "combatants." A Reuters review of more than 100 Chinese military procurement notices, patents and papers found the PLA testing humanoids for battlefield roles; one military-university paper modeled six robots clearing an enemy-occupied building floor-by-floor. Reuters found no evidence of an armed humanoid deployed with an operational PLA unit yet.

Chinese regulators used informal "window guidance" to effectively freeze humanoid-robot IPOs, scrutinizing whether soaring valuations and state-backed revenue reflected real commercial demand. The trigger: Unitree Robotics soared more than fivefold on its Shanghai debut, then slumped 55% from its peak. With Deep Robotics, X Square Robot and AGIBOT queued to list, one investor estimated valuations could fall 60–70% if data-collection-centre revenue were stripped out — even as Beijing kept promoting "embodied intelligence" as a strategic industry.

FieldAI set out to raise $700 million at a $10 billion valuation, per Business Insider, to build a single foundation model — one universal brain — for humanoids, robot dogs, drones and rovers. The raise prices the software layer of physical AI at ten figures while the bodies themselves commoditize.
