ZUCK BLINKS: META’S AI-SCRAPE ULTIMATUM MOVED TO NOV. 20

Meta postponed the effective date of its revised Commercial Terms and Self-Serve Ad Terms from October 30 to November 20 after publishers and advertisers complained to EU and UK antitrust regulators, Reuters reported on Friday. A Meta spokesperson said the extra three weeks give the company time “to explain to our partners and stakeholders what’s changing and what’s not” — but the wording of the terms is unchanged.

The European Commission welcomed the pause while it reviews the terms under the Digital Markets Act, and the UK’s CMA confirmed it is in “urgent discussions” with Meta and warned it may use enforcement powers. The European Publishers Council said “little has changed in substance” and asked Brussels to impose interim measures before November 20, calling the terms “a textbook abuse of dominance” that hands Meta a blanket licence to scrape publishers’ sites for AI.
