THE SHORT VERSION
2,000 publishers just wrote Zuck a letter. Britain's watchdog and Brussels are circling too
British publishers complained to the Competition and Markets Authority that Meta is so dominant they are compelled to accept its terms. CMA chief Sarah Cardell told lawmakers the watchdog asked Meta to explain the changes and would meet the company on Wednesday, naming Meta as a possible candidate for Britain's new rules for tech giants.
The European Commission told POLITICO it is aware of the changes and remains 'committed to ensure that Meta's practices fully comply with all applicable obligations under EU law, including competition rules and the Digital Markets Act.'
