THE SHORT VERSION

This new AI spits out 1,000 tokens a second — and still beats GPT-6 Luna

Inception launched Mercury 3 on October 19, describing it as the most capable diffusion large language model yet released and its fourth Mercury release since June 2025. The company says the model runs above 1,000 tokens per second — 1,068 tokens per second on Nvidia GPUs in some reports — while outperforming GPT-6 Luna and Claude Haiku 5.5 across a range of benchmarks, at four to eight times their speed. Those benchmark results are company-reported.

Mercury 3 is more than 40 times the size of Mercury 1 yet runs at comparable speed, and it expands the context window to one million tokens, up from 260,000 for Mercury 2.5. Inception lists prices of $0.20 per million input tokens and $0.70 per million output tokens, halved at launch, and says early customers are already using it for browser agents, interactive education, real-time search agents and customer support.

Satirical cartoon: a robot at a desk writes four full pages at once as text resolves from visual noise like developing photos, while a speedometer reads '1,000 tok/s' and a tall stack of papers labeled 'One word at a time…' sits beside it; a tabby cat sleeps on the desk.
