THE SHORT VERSION
PLUS DEEPSEEK OPENED ITS OWN SEARCH ENGINE TO DEVELOPERS — HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF SEARCHES A DAY, FILTERS OUT THE AI SLOP
Alongside its new model, DeepSeek has opened its in-house web search engine to outside developers through Search and Fetch APIs. The Search API returns ranked web results for a query, with options for 1 to 50 results, site and language operators, and date filters, while the Fetch API returns a single page as Markdown. DeepSeek says the engine already handles hundreds of millions of searches per day worldwide.
Each endpoint costs $0.75 per 1,000 successful calls, with empty results and failures free, and a rate limit of 5 queries per second per account. Calls made server-side through DeepSeek Harness, Claude Code, or Codex are free during an introductory window running to the end of October 2026. For agent builders, the launch pairs the cheaper DeepSWE-leading Flash model with a first-party web layer behind a single API key.
