The story behind the cartoon
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported in his Sunday Power On newsletter that Apple's new chief executive, John Ternus, held a closed-door meeting with software chief Craig Federighi in recent weeks and pushed him to accelerate Apple's software roadmap. Ternus is frustrated, Gurman reports, by what he sees as a reluctance to embrace AI with the same urgency as Apple's competitors.
According to the report, Ternus wants Apple to move quickly beyond merely making necessary improvements to Siri, with an agentic Siri eyed as soon as 2027. The report also says Vision Pro and Siri engineering leader Mike Rockwell continues to seriously consider stepping down next year, and that Apple is testing a development pipeline that could give engineers about 50 percent more time to code as AI coding agents improve.
The account rests on unnamed sources and Apple has not commented. AppleInsider, covering the report, noted its internal tensions — Federighi's planning is described as already short-term — and advised taking it with a grain of salt. For context, Apple launched Siri AI in beta with iOS 27 in September 2026 and opened it to developers in the iOS 27.3 betas on November 3.
The joke is the age gap: the world's richest company has put its AI in a stroller, and the new boss is already tapping his watch. Siri is asleep with a pacifier while the toy block on the floor just says AI.
