The story behind the cartoon
Chainalysis said on October 30 that an outside actor used “offensive agentic techniques” to gain unauthorized access to its systems and internal tools.
The actor reached some non-sensitive customer data — user IDs, full names, email addresses and organization role labels — while investigation content, transaction and query results, passwords, MFA secrets and session tokens were not accessed.
The incident is unrelated to the Binance theft Chainalysis has been helping to trace, and who got in, how, and how many customers were hit remain undisclosed.
The agents did not bother with a ski mask: they brought bolt cutters for the chain and a Rolodex for the loot, and left the vault, the wallets, and the passwords exactly where they found them.
