KICKED OUT BY THE BALLOT BOX

The story behind the cartoon

Voters in at least 14 Ohio municipalities passed bans or new restrictions on data centers on November 3, with 10 towns passing outright bans.

Ashville voted almost 82 percent to reverse its council’s agreement with developer EdgeConneX for two data centers and an on-site gas plant, and Trenton passed Issue 17 banning data centers over 25 megawatts by almost 80 percent.

Elon Musk, the cycle’s top megadonor, joked after the losses that data centers in space look appealing.

The ballot box does not argue, lobby, or file a public comment — it just puts a foot through the front door and boots the whole building out of town, and the sign has already done the counting.
