THE SHORT VERSION

Claude can now read your bank account — and can't move a cent

Satirical cartoon: a cheerful round accountant robot with huge eyes and a green visor holds a long bank statement headed YOUR TRANSACTIONS (2 YEARS) while a worried Merv clutches his wallet, beside a Plaid sign and a sign reading CAN READ YOUR BANK ACCOUNT, CAN'T MOVE A DOLLAR.
Machine Age Cartoon · Zimbo

Anthropic launched Personal Finance in Claude on November 5 — a beta that lets paying subscribers in the US link bank and card accounts through Plaid and ask Claude about their money in plain language, from where the month's money went to whether they can afford a trip this spring.

The access is read-only: for each account you choose to share, Claude sees the bank's name, account names and types, balances and credit limits, and up to two years of transactions across as many as 16 banks — but it cannot move, manage, or invest a cent, and it never sees your bank password, because sign-in happens inside Plaid. Conversations in the Personal Finance hub aren't used to train Anthropic's models, and there are no ads or sponsored recommendations.

The catch is in Anthropic's own words: Claude can make mistakes, so users should ask which transactions sit behind a number and check important figures with their bank. It lands six months after ChatGPT's finance tools, on the same Plaid pipe — but reading less, for now.
