Apple cut the daily amount its engineering teams can spend on AI from $300 to $200 in October, Bloomberg reported, and deeper cuts are coming — some allowances could fall to $100 a day, while teams outside engineering could be capped at $25.

The allowances pay for the AI tokens engineers burn through on tools like ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini, and the cut lands after a year when companies pushed staff to use as much AI as possible — a binge TechCrunch calls tokenmaxxing — only for the bills to come due.
