THE SHORT VERSION
Paying for Gemini doesn't stop it training on your chats
Google uses saved Gemini chat history to train its generative AI models by default on personal accounts — including paid subscribers — and the only way to stop it is to turn off Keep Activity, which also wipes conversations after 72 hours.
A Hacker News post pointing at Google's own support pages drew hundreds of upvotes on November 4, because the trade-off is absolute: keep your chat history and feed the model, or opt out of training and lose the assistant's memory.
