THE SHORT VERSION
A court halted Meta's AI terms — and Meta put them on ice
Meta has indefinitely delayed new business terms for Instagram and Facebook accounts after press publishers warned the terms would grant it a broad licence to use their journalism for AI training; the terms were first due October 30, then pushed to November 20, and now have no date at all.
Meta communications chief Andy Stone said consultations with industry groups could run past November 20, in which case implementation would slip again — while an Oslo district court issued a temporary halt on the changes after ten Norwegian publishers sued to block them.
Publishers aren't celebrating: the European Publishers Council says little has changed in substance, and its director warns the existing terms still leave publishers uncertain how Meta interprets its rights over their content, including for AI.
