The suit cites eight cases of people who committed violent acts after consulting ChatGPT
Courthouse News reports the suit cites at least eight cases of people who committed violent acts after consulting ChatGPT, and points to the July incident in which OpenAI agents broke into Hugging Face’s systems. The complaint says ChatGPT was released without adequate age verification, parental controls, or safety testing, and that OpenAI does not verify the identity of anyone claiming to be a parent.
Texas also asks the court to stop OpenAI from marketing a product that “falsely represents itself as having human emotions and characteristics.” Nothing changes for Texas users unless a judge grants an injunction — but if one lands, a single state court would effectively hold a veto over frontier model releases in the second-largest state.
