THE SHORT VERSION
Sweden switched off ChatGPT and Claude for its own government — Copilot is the only AI left standing
Sweden's Government Offices will block ChatGPT and Claude on staff work computers from Monday, October 26, Sveriges Radio's Ekot reported Friday, directing civil servants to Microsoft's Copilot — the only assistant to pass the offices' security review after its settings were tightened.
The reason is contractual, not ideological: digitalisation director Mikael Wettercrantz warned on the staff intranet that using AI services without an agreement could have consequences for information security, after an audit at the Transport Administration found staff feeding sensitive material into ten different open AI services.
The twist is delicious: the prime minister himself told a business paper he uses ChatGPT for a second opinion, and Copilot can itself run Claude models — so the block may mostly move Claude behind Microsoft's contract rather than out of the building.
