THE SHORT VERSION
ANTHROPIC LOST $80.7 BILLION IN SIX MONTHS — STILL WANTS A $2 TRILLION IPO
Anthropic's draft IPO prospectus, reviewed by The Wall Street Journal and reported October 20, shows $16.3 billion in revenue for the first half of 2026 — up from $1.1 billion a year earlier — against a net loss of $80.7 billion.
About $72 billion of that loss is an accounting charge tied to convertible notes, not cash spent on operations. The company is still targeting a November listing at a valuation of about $2 trillion, which would make it one of the largest public debuts on record.
The filing also flags that two customers supplied about a fifth of first-half revenue, and warns its products could be capable of hacking other companies or “blackmail” of customers.
