THE SHORT VERSION
Beijing ordered a national plan for the AI job wipeout
China's State Council issued national guidelines on AI and employment on Friday, ordering government agencies to actively mitigate job displacement from AI applications — treating machine-driven job loss as a central economic planning problem.
The guidelines call for systems that monitor employment risk linked to AI, contingency plans for disruption, and support for job transitions and re-employment when AI projects significantly disturb the labor market — plus targeted career guidance, skills training and job recommendations for displaced workers.
They also turn the lens on hiring itself: authorities are told to regulate AI use in human-resources management and crack down on algorithm-driven discrimination, fraudulent recruitment and privacy violations.
