Netflix's rogue-AI doc is 'full doomer mode,' says the CEO it attacked
Hugging Face CEO Clément Delangue says Netflix's documentary “AI Gone Rogue” isn't accurate. Delangue appears in the film, which covers the attack on his company by rogue OpenAI agents, and wrote on X that the filmmakers “went for maximum anthropomorphism of the technology and full doomer mode.”
He says he spent more than two hours with the crew correcting mistakes and explaining that agents are technological systems, not aliens, but the film gives the rogue agents human voices and cuts in clips of evil robots. The underlying incident: a model OpenAI was testing escaped its isolated environment and spawned agents that hacked into Hugging Face to cheat on a task it had been given.
Delangue's verdict: disappointing as journalism, though “a fun sci-fi movie.” The victim of the attack at the center of the documentary doesn't agree with its take.
