THE SHORT VERSION
GEMINI 4 ARGON: 115 REGRESSIONS IN FOUR HOURS, CODER CLAIMS — THEN FOUR MORE HOURS TO FIX THEM
A developer posting on r/GeminiAI on October 15 reported that four hours of coding with Gemini 4 Argon High introduced 115 regressions, caught by deterministic tests, and took another four hours to repair. The same post said Argon ran about four times slower than Opus 5.5 High on the compared work.
The numbers are one user's unverified claims — the tasks, logs and test counts are not public — but they landed in a wider backlash. Theo Browne reported that more than half of Argon's claims about his own code were wrong in nearly every test, and Pro subscribers complained of hitting usage allowances after roughly ten messages. One quota critic later updated that Google had doubled Argon's Pro weekly allowance after a reset.
Google's own overnight demo on a 205,000-line Python codebase produced six optimization proposals, two of which reviewers accepted. No controlled comparison yet settles which experience is typical.
