THE SHORT VERSION
Replika's founder launched an AI assistant that builds your apps
Eugenia Kuyda, who founded the AI companion company Replika, has launched Wabi 2.0 to all users — a multiplayer personal AI assistant built as a messenger app. Users keep multiple agentic threads for different tasks and long-term goals, and within each thread the assistant builds and runs custom apps, such as a weight-loss tracker in a health thread or a guide to nearby children's events in a family thread.
The launch realizes a concierge chatbot called IO that Kuyda pitched at TechCrunch Disrupt 12 years earlier, before modern large language models existed; her startup Luka later became Replika. Wabi's first version, launched with a $20 million pre-seed round, let users create mini apps to share. In version 2.0 the agent decides what to build, after the team found people wanted personal software without spending time building it.
