The story behind the cartoon
Theo Browne was a Twitch engineer when COVID erased the office lunch table — the engineer-heavy lunches and dinners where he says he learned fastest. With that environment gone, he left Twitch for a startup, then left again to build his own company around creator and video tooling, founding the company behind Ping in 2021.
The company joined Y Combinator's Winter 2022 batch, and the T3 Stack — the opinionated, typesafe way to build full-stack TypeScript apps, with create-t3-app at its center — escaped into the wild. In 2023 the team released UploadThing, signing up more than 30,000 users that year, while Browne's developer videos drew roughly 15 million views and his YouTube channel became part of the product machine.
Then came the holiday project: around the end of 2024 Browne built an AI chat app, launched it as T3 Chat in January 2025, and days later said it had already processed more than 500,000 messages. The ship-fast instinct is the whole brand — five days from idea to an internet-scale chat app.
The joke in Zimbo's strip is the speed made literal: Browne rockets to a mountain lookout with Buddy the robot dog and gazes down at a valley of indie developers shipping chat apps like wildflowers — the future he dreamed of, five days at a time.
