The story behind the cartoon
Bloomberg reported that Goldman Sachs has limited tools like Anthropic's Claude Code and Microsoft's GitHub tools to its engineers only, after months of letting bankers use them, under internal guidance published last month.
Traders who had used AI to monitor client trading flows and draft materials are frustrated; as recently as July, chief information officer Marco Argenti had touted non-technical staff's vibe coding, and the firm has 12,000 engineers to hand the tools to.
Goldman framed the move as putting the tools in the hands of those best suited to leverage them for the long term.
Everyone got to vibe-code until the bank remembered who it actually trusts with the keyboard — the bankers are now locked out of the room where the engineers lounge.
