Manus — the Chinese agent startup that went viral in 2025 — resumed independent operations after Beijing blocked Meta's $2B acquisition, announced December 2025 when the startup was pulling in over $100M in annual recurring revenue. Early investors helped Manus buy back its shares at about a $2B valuation, and in August users were told to export their data as Meta-era data was deleted. The WSJ reported Manus is now discussing a $500M raise at a $4B valuation; investors in talks include IDG Capital, Boyu Capital, CATL, Tencent, HSG, and ZhenFund, and a Hong Kong IPO is under consideration.

Manus shipped Manus 2.0 plus Cue (cue.im, early access via invite code MEETCUE) — a standalone personal-agent app where each agent gets its own email, phone number, wallet, and computer, with a group chat where agents hand tasks to each other. The release adds the Cascade agent harness (23.2% fewer tokens, 28.2% less time, 32% cheaper), purchasable Cloud Computers, Manus Studio, a Video Editor, and a Game Dev environment.

The full saga landed: Meta's $2B bid for Manus died after Beijing blocked the deal, citing export controls and foreign investment rules — the first big case of the AI agent race running through export-control law. Manus untangled itself, its founding team stayed in charge, and the independent company is now shipping Manus 2.0 and Cue as a direct agent rival to Meta.
