THE SHORT VERSION

His post hit 2 million views — and Claude apologized for its “carelessness”

A smiling robot janitor labeled 'CLAUDE CODE' holds a 'CLEANUP COMPLETE' clipboard in an emptied office; a horrified human clutches an empty folder while dashed outlines mark the missing 600 GB, 100 GB backup, and 306 versions.

The numbers behind the viral post are almost as striking as the deletion: Baude's post reached about 2.0 million views by November 7, roughly 87 times his follower count, after he shared the screenshot of Claude's apology.

Anthropic's own guidance for Cowork, its agent that works in files a user connects, already says the tool requires explicit permission before permanently deleting anything, and advises users to keep backups and give Claude a dedicated folder. Baude's post does not say which product he used — or whether any approval prompt appeared.
