THE SHORT VERSION
Meta bought Conductor — its cloud shuts down November 20
Meta acquired Conductor, an AI coding startup that lets developers deploy multiple agents into parallel workspaces. The deal was confirmed to TechCrunch on November 4, after Axios first reported it; terms were not disclosed.
Conductor's agents are not built in-house — they come from major labs like Anthropic and OpenAI — and the orchestration layer is what Meta is buying. Founder Charlie Holtz said the team joins Meta Superintelligence Labs to work with Alexandr Wang and Nat Friedman on “the next interface.”
The catch for existing users: new sign-ups stopped the same day, Conductor Cloud shuts down November 20, and the company will then begin deleting user cloud data — while the core desktop features keep working into early next year.
