THE SHORT VERSION

Starting in December, ChatGPT Plus, Pro and Business plans will draw from a single usage allowance shared across ChatGPT and Codex, measured in tokens, as OpenAI folds Work's agent features into the main ChatGPT experience — the change surfaced in an updated OpenAI support page reported by The Decoder.

Bigger models and harder tasks will burn through the budget faster, while chats with Instant models won't count at all; when the allowance runs out, users must wait for a reset, upgrade their plan, or buy extra credits.

OpenAI has published no allowance sizes per plan and no exact December date, so subscribers can't yet tell how hard the shared meter will bite.
