THE SHORT VERSION
CHATBOTS BUILT YOUR VOTER GUIDE FROM AI WEBSITES — AND BLEW YOUR DISTRICT
The Washington Post asked six popular chatbots to build a midterm voter guide for a random address in every U.S. county, then analyzed more than 3,000 of the resulting guides.
Copilot cited the Ballot Brief — a site the Post describes as largely produced by AI tools and run by a former Rumble executive — in 75 percent of its voter-guide responses; ChatGPT cited it in 22 percent. The site mapped some ZIP codes to the wrong congressional districts, and the chatbots passed those errors along.
Across all the guides, the chatbots failed to name a congressional district 48 percent of the time, and got it wrong 22 percent of the time when they did name one — days before voters head to the polls.
