THE SHORT VERSION
Marissa Mayer asked AI to describe her daughter — the internet called it bleak

In a New York Times interview published over the weekend, former Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer said she asked her own AI assistant, Dazzle, to come up with three bullet points summing up what makes her 10-year-old daughter special — and called the result, “empathetic, creative, and an animal lover,” perfect.
The backlash was instant: one X post calling the anecdote “so bleak” drew 1.9 million views, and users wondered why a mother needed a machine to describe her own child — or whether the story was staged to promote Dazzle, her camera-roll-reading assistant that launched in September after an $8 million seed round. Mayer answered on X that she used it because summing up a child in a few bullets “feels laughably limiting,” not because she was overwhelmed.
