THE SHORT VERSION

Musk promised a full AI Odyssey — Grok delivered 7 airless minutes

Three months after Elon Musk promised Grok Imagine would make a full-length, historically accurate movie of Homer's Odyssey by the end of 2026, xAI has posted seven minutes and twelve seconds — 'Episode 1 of our Odyssey series,' made with Grok Imagine in collaboration with Wonder Studios and director Dev Walker.

TechCrunch's Anthony Ha watched the whole thing and found it 'completely airless': stilted dialogue, a voiceover backstory that goes on forever, and 'no artistry, inspiration, or human interest' — he was checking the time left before the seven minutes were half over.

The episode is also a casting-feud sequel: Musk attacked Christopher Nolan's Odyssey for casting nonwhite and transgender actors, then released an all-white cast of his own — while Nolan's version, shot in six countries with thousands of crew, grossed $1.78 billion.

Satirical cartoon: a complete Hollywood film set — camera on dolly, boom mic, clapperboard, studio light — stands empty; a server rack with glowing green and blue lights sits in the wooden director's chair labeled DIRECTOR, its cables snaking into the set.
