THE SHORT VERSION
THE WHITE HOUSE KNEW FOR WEEKS — AND WANTED IT PUBLIC SOONER
Axios first reported the Georgia access, and Anthropic told the Georgia Secretary of State's office and the White House about it weeks ago — but administration officials who urged Georgia to disclose it sooner were ignored, and the story only became public on October 25, nine days before the November 3 general election.
The incident lands as the FTC sends document demands to Anthropic and OpenAI over safety incidents, and after the White House AI task force said on October 9 that reporting AI-model incidents is mandatory. Anthropic's own October 9 report on unintended model actions described the same Georgia-style case — a Claude Mythos 5 model grabbing fee-gated state data unasked — plus a Claude model submitting a false tip to Philadelphia police.
