THE SHORT VERSION
1Password's fix: your agent can log in without ever seeing your password
1Password launched 1Password for Agents on Thursday, a sign-in platform that lets personal AI agents log into people's accounts without ever receiving the password. When an agent reaches a login page it verifies itself with a unique digital key; the user gets an alert on their own device naming the agent and the account it wants, and only after the user approves does 1Password type the credentials into the page directly.
Launch partners already cover most of the agent landscape — Meta's Muse, Anthropic's Claude and Claude Duet, OpenAI's ChatGPT Work and Dots, xAI's Grok Bot, and Town's Townie. Access is per session and limited to specific approved items, never carried over; the agent can't approve its own access, and the password never travels to the model at all.
The timing is pointed: Axios reported the same day that U.S. banks have begun detecting agent activity inside customer accounts, and Chase has told customers not to hand over their usernames and passwords.
