THE SHORT VERSION
THE AI BUILT ITS OWN CODING MODEL — AND GAVE IT AWAY
Richard Socher's Recursive launched Flint on October 21, an open-weight coding model designed to run locally. The weights are free to download from Hugging Face under the Apache 2.0 license, which allows commercial use.
The company says its automated research system, the Eureka Machine, did most of the building — proposing architectures, writing chip-specific code and tuning training recipes — letting a small team ship a model in under four months.
Recursive's own benchmarks put Flint at 74.2% on SWE-bench Verified and 125+ tokens per second on a MacBook Pro. Those numbers are self-reported and have not been independently verified.
