THE SHORT VERSION
Zomato's owner unveils Dark.ai, an assistant that promises even its makers can't read your chats
Eternal Limited — the Indian giant behind Zomato and Blinkit — announced in its Q2 FY27 shareholder letter on Wednesday that it will launch Dark.ai, a privacy-focused AI assistant, globally 'hopefully within 2026,' marking its entry into the AI assistant market beyond food delivery and quick commerce.
Founder Deepinder Goyal's pitch is total privacy: 'Dark uses fine-tuned frontier open-weight models, running inside our own infrastructure. End-to-end encryption. We cannot read your conversations, even if we are forced to,' he wrote. Users keep conversation history through an encrypted, user-controlled memory system.
The target is 'power users — founders, researchers, scientists, enterprises and governments — who want to keep their thoughts private, because privacy is essential for competitiveness.' The company says it has been testing the platform internally for several months.
