THE SHORT VERSION
WEEKS BEFORE THE $2 TRILLION IPO, HE TOLD THE WORLD’S BANKERS THE SINGULARITY IS COMING
Anthropic co-founder Jack Clark told government and finance officials gathered in Bangkok for the IMF and World Bank annual meetings that AI could raise U.S. GDP to an estimated $44 trillion by 2030, up from about $30 trillion now. The projection, drawn from one of the company's internal models, assumes the technology keeps improving and that new industries and inventions emerge to sustain such an expansion.
The timing gave the remarks extra weight: Clark spoke as Anthropic prepares for an initial public offering expected the following month that could value the company at up to $2 trillion. Alongside the growth forecast, he warned of a possible singularity in which AI development exceeds human control, said progress across science will speed up in ways that feel confusing and disorienting, and urged global cooperation on serious rules while policymakers still have time to impose them.
