The story behind the cartoon
Meta acquired Conductor, the startup whose Mac app lets developers run several AI coding agents at once — Claude Code, Codex or Cursor agents each in its own workspace — Axios reported on November 4. Terms were not disclosed.
Founder and CEO Charlie Holtz confirmed the deal the same day, saying the team is joining Meta Superintelligence Labs to build what he called the next interface. The existing product is being wound down: new sign-ups and downloads stopped November 4.
Conductor Cloud goes read-only November 13 and shuts down November 20, when deletion of cloud user data begins. The core desktop features keep working into early next year — but the cloud the users paid for is gone within weeks of the acquisition.
The joke is the buy-and-kill beat: a laughing Meta executive in a META hoodie cuts the red ribbon that is the fat red power cable feeding the CONDUCTOR CLOUD server, making it spark, while three small robots at laptops watch their screens go black beside a NOV 20 placard.
