The story behind the cartoon
DeepSeek's Harness team unveiled Super-agent, an open-source prototype coding agent, in a WeChat post on October 31, positioning it directly against Anthropic's Claude Code weeks ahead of Anthropic's expected IPO roadshow.
Unlike agents that wait to be summoned, Super-agent monitors developers' group chats on its own, gathers views on coding problems, and proposes solutions first, aiming, in its manual's words, to minimise what people need to worry about and maximise the value gained.
The launch comes alongside a roughly $15 billion funding round for DeepSeek, as Chinese labs step up their challenge to US rivals in the developer-tools market; the tool itself remains a prototype, not a finished product.
It doesn't wait for an invitation, a ticket, or even a hello — it just climbs out of your group chat with a wrench and a finished pull request, like a coworker who lets himself in through the window.
