THE SHORT VERSION
AI agents booked just 4 Uber rides out of 320 million
On Uber's third-quarter earnings call on November 4, the company said only four rides were ordered through an AI agent during Halloween week, its busiest week in October, against around 320 million trips and orders across Uber and Uber Eats that week. Agents placed roughly 500 Uber Eats orders in the same week.
Chief executive Dara Khosrowshahi called the traction "very, very early and very limited" but said he hopes for more, noting that booking a ride in Uber's own app takes about 50 seconds and reordering a favorite meal about 90 seconds — so an agent saves the customer almost no time.
DoorDash said the same thing on its earnings call the previous week, reporting only a few hundred agent-placed orders so far. These are the first hard numbers against the agentic-commerce hype, and they land as around eight major AI assistants compete to become the app you never open.
