THE SHORT VERSION
Anthropic's $17 billion quarter came with an $895 billion compute bill

Anthropic's amended IPO filing, filed November 2, adds its first full third quarter: $16.96 billion in revenue for the three months to September 30, up 47 percent from the second quarter and more than twelve times the same quarter a year earlier.
The quarter still lost money on operations: a $567 million operating loss after a $974 million operating profit in the second quarter, which the filing blames mainly on $5 billion of short-term compute bought at a premium plus a $2 billion non-cash donation-matching charge.
The filing also totals the bill for the buildout: about $895.4 billion in purchase and lease commitments, nearly all for compute and infrastructure, with roughly $70 billion due within a year — while the IPO's price range and share count stay blank.
