THE SHORT VERSION
Britain opened a probe into Meta's AI terms anyway

Britain's Competition and Markets Authority opened an investigation on October 30 into whether Meta's commercial terms for businesses abuse a dominant position, probing terms that could let Meta collect publishers' and businesses' website content and use it for its own products, including AI features, without giving them a choice.
The probe goes ahead even though Meta paused the rollout on October 28: the CMA says its scope covers Meta's existing terms as well as revisions to those terms, with rapid information-gathering running into January 2027.
No breach has been found — the CMA stresses no decision has been made — and Meta says there are “no grounds” for an investigation, saying it has committed not to change its terms without consulting publishers and other stakeholders.
