THE SHORT VERSION

ChatGPT just got the keys to your company's IT desk

Satirical cartoon: a cheerful white robot sits at a company IT desk, holding an INCIDENT ticket in one hand and a CHANGE RISK checklist in the other, while a screen behind it lists ServiceNow incidents and a giant green rulebook titled YOUR BUSINESS RULES & PERMISSIONS anchors the desk.

ServiceNow and OpenAI expanded their partnership on October 28 with a new ServiceNow plugin for ChatGPT, available now in OpenAI's marketplace. It brings business context and workflow actions into a chat conversation, so an IT worker can find similar incidents, assess the risk of a change, and update a ServiceNow record without leaving ChatGPT.

ServiceNow's Action Fabric applies the customer's existing business rules and permissions, so what ChatGPT can do inside a company's instance reflects that organization's own configuration — and ServiceNow remains the system where the actions are actually executed and governed.

The roadmap runs into 2027: a Codex integration in ServiceNow's AI Workflow Factory, OpenAI-powered security tools entering early access in January, and a voice-driven risk-assessment experience. Each company is also adopting the other's tools at home — ServiceNow is giving all employees ChatGPT Work and Codex, while OpenAI is running its own operations on ServiceNow.
