THE SHORT VERSION

Carbon arrives two weeks after Argon, priced the same — and gated to defenders first

Reuters reports Google unveiled Carbon on Wednesday, two weeks after Gemini 4 Argon, as competition with OpenAI and Anthropic over coding and cybersecurity systems intensifies.

Google says Carbon generates secure code at more than twice Argon's success rate on internal benchmarks and is designed for complex, long-running engineering and coding tasks.

Pricing matches Argon's introductory rates, and first access goes to defenders in the Fairwind Program while safeguards are still being tested — a gated rollout that drew the day's loudest complaint online: the world's top-ranked model, and paying Pro, Ultra and API users can't touch it.
