THE SHORT VERSION
One man, Claude, and 11 labs built a drug program Anthropic just bought

Anthropic has acquired Mithril Medicine, a biotech whose only full-time employee, founder Cody Tranbarger, used Claude to coordinate contracts, logistics, experiments and data across 11 outside laboratories. The deal, completed in July and disclosed October 27, becomes Anthropic's first in-house drug program.
Mithril took a treatment for LAMA2-related congenital muscular dystrophy from idea to promising mouse results in under 18 months, with treated mice showing roughly twice the grip strength and muscle force of untreated mice in a six-week study. The results are preliminary, not tested in humans, and the treated animals remained weaker than healthy mice.
Anthropic calls the model Pipeline-in-a-Person and says a candidate could reach human trials as soon as late 2028 — a bet that one scientist plus an AI coordinator can pursue rare diseases that once needed a whole company.
