THE SHORT VERSION

Musk admitted he was 'clearly wrong about Anthropic' — and called it 'obviously currently the leader in AI'

Satirical cartoon: an Elon Musk caricature shakes hands with an Anthropic co-founder figure across a server rack labeled SPACEX, trading a giant check reading '$1.25B / MONTH'; a discarded protest placard reading 'MISANTHROPIC' lies on the ground.

A year ago Musk posted that 'winning was never in the set of possible outcomes for Anthropic.' When users on X asked whether he might one day boot the lab off SpaceX's servers to kneecap a competitor, he answered that he had been 'clearly wrong about Anthropic' — and called it 'obviously currently the leader in AI.'

Anthropic was already paying $1.25 billion a month under an earlier May agreement, according to a SpaceX regulatory filing, and has since expanded into the Colossus 2 facility. The extra power translated into looser limits on Claude Code and higher API caps for its top models.
