THE SHORT VERSION

An AI idol got 'pregnant' — her creators couldn't manage five personalities

BABYQUEEN is a Chinese AI girl group that launched in September 2026 with five fictional members styled after K-pop acts. Earlier this month its fictional management company, BABYPVSSY Entertainment, announced that member Mity was pregnant and taking maternity leave — and Mity's own account confirmed it the next day with a photo of the virtual idol in pink pajamas, in bed.

The announcement pulled in more than 78 million views on Weibo and a storm of ridicule and anger: users joked about who the fictional baby's father could be, while others accused the creators of trivializing women's reproductive experiences by using pregnancy as a publicity stunt.

Within days the creators confessed it was a workload excuse. In a since-deleted post, they said managing multiple AI personalities had become exhausting, so they invented the pregnancy to temporarily retire Mity. "We're just a few girls who like K-Pop, and we're still students," they wrote, adding that they had made no money from the project and had faced harassment.
