SEGA PULLED THE SHOGUN 2 REMASTER — THE AI-UPSCALED SAMURAI HAD SIX FINGERS

Sega and Creative Assembly are temporarily removing Total War: Shogun 2 – Complete Edition from sale and reinstating the original 2011 game after the remaster launched to overwhelmingly negative feedback. Players reported the new version is full of bugs and apparent AI-generated visuals, with Steam reviews claiming characters in new cutscenes are missing digits and limbs and criticizing the new textures as a blurry mess.

The remaster, released October 13, was billed as a 64-bit upgrade with improved visuals, updated lighting and textures, 1440p and 4K UI scaling, modernized controls, and additional voice acting and factions. In a statement, Sega said the game had fallen short of expectations and its own standards, and that it is working with porting partner Mataboo to identify the causes and deliver improvements. Sega did not say whether it will remove the apparent AI-generated art, which is not disclosed on the Steam page, or whether the original version will remain on sale once the remaster returns.
